Abstract: The objective of this study was to develop a supermacroporous monolithic column functionalized with the cationic amino acid L-aspartic acid for use in protein adsorption processes, with commercial lysozyme being evaluated as a model. A cryogel based on acrylamide and bis-acrylamide was developed under freezing conditions (-12°C) and functionalized with L-aspartic acid. Subsequently, the cryogels were employed in lysozyme adsorption assays using PBS (pH 7.0 and 20 mM). The supermacroporous monolithic column activated with L-arginine (pAAm-arginine), possessing an anionic character, exhibited suitable physical and morphological characteristics for chromatography columns. In the adsorption assays, it successfully adsorbed 0.264 mg/mL of the enzyme.
