Abstract: Psychotropic drugs (such as anxiolytics, hypnotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, among others) are responsible for altering behavior, mood, cognition, and consciousness, and their actions occur directly in the Central Nervous System (CNS). Self-medication is a very common form of irrational drug use, characterized by taking medications without the guidance of a healthcare professional. Therefore, the use of educational technologies becomes relevant as they can contribute to the promotion and protection of health by providing guidance on the rational use of medications. This study aimed to describe the development process of an educational technology on the promotion of rational use of psychotropic drugs. It is a methodological study of technological development that involved a literature review and the development of an educational technology in the form of a folder. In the first phase, through the review, it was possible to identify that university students who use psychotropic drugs the most come from nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, medicine, and pharmacy courses. The use is more frequent among students in the early, middle, and final stages of their courses. Among the drugs used are methylphenidate, diazepam, clonazepam, and bromazepam. Reasons for students using these drugs were also identified. In the second phase, a folder entitled "Rational Use of Psychotropic Drugs" was developed. In this context, the development of an educational technology in the form of a folder addressing the rational use of psychotropic drugs provides important information to university students with the aim of promoting the rational use of medications and preventing potential adverse effects and worsening of their conditions due to improper use of these medications.
