Abstract: The proposal of this study is to perform a bibliographic review on cultivars of cotton, considering the performance of Embrapa. A Embrapa is a public company, linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), becoming the largest and main Brazilian agricultural research institution, standing out in the international sphere as the main center of tropical agricultural technology in the world. As part of fulfilling its mission, the conservation of genetic resources in germplasm banks and the development of new plant varieties through genetic improvement programs stand out. The cultivar indication process is dynamic and continuous. Periodically, the survey recommends new cultivars to replace those being used by farmers, always seeking greater economic profitability. The success of a cotton crop essentially depends on the cultivar chosen for planting. Embrapa has already placed on the market a great diversity of cultivars available to producers, in order to offer the best results.
