Abstract: Due to prolonged drought conditions never before observed in the history of rainfall data monitored since 1910, it has been relevant to evaluate alternative water supply methods, such as the use of rainwater harvesting systems. These water supply alternatives not only meet the increasingly growing demands but also help mitigate the effects of water shortages in certain regions. This study aims to present an application and a website called Rainwater Reservoir (RAC-RJ) as a proposal for sizing rainwater harvesting system reservoirs and calculating the return- on-investment period, especially for the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The development of these digital technologies involves analyzing historical series of more than 20 years of rainfall data obtained from 33 automatic monitoring stations operated by the Alerta Rio System in Rio de Janeiro. The methods of Consecutive Rainless Days and Resolution SMG/SMO/SMU No. 001/2005 were used to calculate the reservoir capacity. The obtained results demonstrate the ease of application and operation of the application and the computer program for non-potable use demand of rainwater, meteorological factors, and according to the geographical location of the building.
