DESENVOLVIMENTO BUCOFACIAL E ALEITAMENTO MATERNO EM CRIANÇAS PORTADORAS DE FISSURAS LABIAIS E/OU PALATINAS: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Objetivo: O presente estudo, através de uma revisão de literatura, tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre o desenvolvimento bucofacial e o aleitamento natural ou artificial em crianças portadoras de fissuras orofaciais, visto que estas crianças podem sofrer interferência no aleitamento materno devido à impossibilidade anatômica de isolar a cavidade oral. Metodologia: Os artigos designados nesta revisão foram pesquisados nas bases de dados Medline, Scielo e PubMED. Foram empregados os termos: Aleitamento materno, Fenda labial, Fissura palatina e Higiene bucal. Também foram aplicados os operadores boleanos “AND” e “OR”. Foram selecionados 20 artigos para inserir-se neste trabalho. As informações foram reunidas de forma a demonstrar a relação entre a influência da amamentação a respeito do desenvolvimento bucofacial em crianças portadoras de fissuras labiopalatais. Resultados: As crianças com fissuras orofaciais mais complexas apresentam sucção insuficiente devido à falta de pressão oral. Enquanto nas crianças com fissura menos complexa o aleitamento natural foi mais satisfatório. Todavia, as mães destas crianças não receberam orientações acerca da saúde bucal dos seus filhos. Conclusão: As dificuldades no aleitamento materno relacionam-se diretamente ao tipo de fissura apresentada. Ademais, as orientações dadas aos responsáveis das crianças é fator decisivo para a manutenção da saúde bucal delas, considerando que comumente apresentam problemas de má oclusão, doença periodontal e, ainda, maior prevalência de cárie dental.

Abstract:
Objective: The present study, through a literature review, aims to analyze the relationship between oral and facial development and natural or artificial breastfeeding in children with orofacial clefts, since these children may suffer interference in breastfeeding due to anatomical impossibility to isolate the oral cavity. Methodology: The articles designated in this review were searched in the Medline, Scielo and PubMED databases. The terms used were: breastfeeding, cleft lip, cleft palate and oral hygiene. Boolean operators “AND” and “OR” were also applied. Twenty articles were selected to be included in this work. The information was gathered in order to demonstrate the relationship between the influence of breastfeeding on bucofacial development in children with cleft lip and palate. Results: Children with more complex orofacial clefts have insufficient suction due to a lack of oral pressure. While in children with less complex cravings, breastfeeding was more satisfactory. However, the mothers of these children did not receive guidance about their children's oral health. Conclusion: The difficulties in breastfeeding are directly related to the type of cleft presented. Furthermore, the guidance given to the children's guardians is a decisive factor for maintaining their oral health, considering that they commonly present problems of malocclusion, periodontal disease and, even more, a higher prevalence of dental caries.
