Abstract: With population growth, modern agriculture is becoming increasingly dependent on phosphorus (P) fertilizers. The search for new sources and strategies to minimize the problems related to P availability has proved challenging. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of transformed rice lines overexpressing the PtxD gene submitted to nutrient solutions containing phosphate (Pi) and phosphite (Phi) at concentrations of 5 µM, 10 µM, 25 µM, 200 µM and 500 µM. To do this, plants of the Nipponbare variety were transformed with the ptxD gene from Pseudomonas stutzeri, and seeds from the F2 generation of this transformation were used in the experiment. The seeds of the wild type (WT) and strain 1 (L1) were disinfested and germinated in distilled water, and then subjected to nutrient solutions containing phosphite and phosphate, with changes every three days. At 28 days after germination (DAG), the plants were collected and the height of the aerial part and the length of the roots were measured. They were then dried in an oven at 60ºC for a week to obtain the dry mass. It was observed that, at concentrations of 5 µM and 10 µM, L1 stood out in phosphate solution. Thus, the transformed strains showed superior performance in nutrient solutions with Pi at low concentrations compared to the use of Phi.
