Abstract: This work addresses the issue of missing persons in the State of Sergipe, aiming to contribute to the formulation, execution, and evaluation of public policies on the subject by identifying the profile of missing persons and the motivations behind this phenomenon, which drags families into a cycle of pain and suffering that can spiral without an end in sight, especially given the observed increase in recorded police reports. The choice of this topic is based on data that raises serious concerns; the selection of this pertinent theme was not accidental but carefully chosen in light of the alarming number of missing individuals in the State of Sergipe annually, averaging 450 people (Sergipe, 2023), who possess a diverse range of socioeconomic and age-specific characteristics. It is essential to highlight that, in many cases, due to public unawareness, there is no proper record with the relevant public security authorities, potentially indicating a much larger number than is known. Thus, this thesis applies a deductive methodology, analyzing records of police reports made available by local Public Security agencies, as well as bibliographic research including articles and scholarly writings on the subject and related areas.
