Abstract: This study aimed to know the role of psychologists, regarding family relationships in the face of the diagnosis of autism. Therefore, a systematic review was carried out on scientific databases, which resulted in the selection of 14 articles that involved family experiences in relation to autism and the role of psychologists in caring for families. As a result, we observed feelings generated by the diagnosis and that mothers are usually the main caregivers. We identified coping strategies, such as beliefs, social support, training and education programs for parents and health services. We still list the psychological performance, as being, predominantly psychoanalytic. Thus, we consider that the psychologist is one of the professionals who need to compose care for family members at the time and after the diagnosis, as well as possibilities for meeting the mental health demands of family members and not just the person with autism.
