Abstract: The use of antibiotics is of great importance, as they are responsible for eliminating bacteria. However, these substances are used indiscriminately, thanks to the ease of acquisition by the population and through the excessive reception of these medications by health professionals, highlighting that in clinical routine treatment is carried out based only on clinical manifestations, without additional tests. It is important to highlight that the entry of antibiotics into natural ecosystems can have serious consequences, contributing to bacterial resistance, whether natural or intrinsic, affecting terrestrial and aquatic life, soil and all biodiversity. This public health concern is valid, as resistance to bacteria can make infections more difficult to treat. Measures such as responsible use of these medicines, wastewater treatment and continued research are essential to mitigate these impacts on the environment.
