Abstract: educational institutions in Brazil. Historically, universities have emphasized an academic model that did not prioritize the economic exploitation of knowledge. With the Legal Framework for Innovation, the possibility of collaboration between the public and private sectors emerged, but this shift has not yet increased participation, especially of women, in applied research activities. Despite some advances in research grants, women are underrepresented in leadership positions. The article highlights that open innovation can foster a more inclusive ecosystem, connecting universities, government, and the private sector, which is crucial for social and economic development. Furthermore, the implementation of policies that encourage female participation in innovation is essential. With the recent creation of programs focused on female entrepreneurs, there is potential for significant progress. The future of innovation is linked to the inclusion of women, who can contribute significantly to sustainability and social transformation, essential for fulfilling the 2030 Agenda.
