Abstract: Scientific initiation is the undergraduate's first contact with systematized research. Through it, the student is encouraged to carry out evidence-based practices, thus developing critical reasoning. However, although this process presents numerous benefits, its applicability has presented some challenges for its consolidation in practice. In this logic, seeking to meet the objective of understanding the perspective of professors at a public Higher Education Institution in the interior of São Paulo, on the main challenges of the Scientific Initiation process, descriptive research with a diagnostic approach was carried out. Data were collected using a self-completed questionnaire, with closed and open questions and analyzed using descriptive statistics analysis. Among the 230 teachers, the sample consisted of 41 participants. The participants had different academic backgrounds, with Nursing being the most prevalent; Most of the teachers had PhDs and those who had no experience with research showed interest in getting closer. Regarding the challenges, teachers highlighted the need for planning and managing their own time; Furthermore, they also pointed out that research developed based on the real needs of the local community, stimulates greater interest in the undergraduate student in the Scientific Initiation process. Therefore, it is important to emphasize that higher education institutions must draw up their own diagnoses, so that they can recognize their weaknesses and potential, aiming to establish expansion and strengthening strategies.
