Abstract: This article addresses the complex challenges faced by environmental education in the context of participatory management in conservation units. In this way, we explore how environmental education is inserted in the context of management, bringing reflections on how it can enable management to be carried out effectively. Thus, we bring important topics to the debate, showing how environmental education is part of the management process, seeking to overcome structural causes of environmental problems through collective and organized action, being strategic in offering knowledge and skills that enable managers to make informed decisions. and responsible in relation to natural resources. We found that environmental education has a series of challenges related to management, such as the diversity of audiences involved and the lack of resources for the management system. Finally, we bring participatory approaches to Environmental Education to the discussion, verifying their potential to resolve conflicts within the scope of participatory management. We conclude that environmental education is strategic for promoting collective actions, contributing to the preservation and facing the challenges encountered by management in conservation units. We suggest that effective implementation of environmental education can not only improve management, but also significantly contribute to resolving conflicts inherent to participatory management in conservation environments.
