• Abstract: ABSTRACT: The Covid-19 pandemic has imposed major challenges on the world in all fields, such as the sharp drop in demand for many activities, the interruption of others, and, eventually, the definitive closure of several businesses. In addition to the economic demands, the health sector has suffered all the impacts of rising input costs, lack of qualified professionals, and shortage of hospital materials and equipment. This work sought to discuss the health systems of the USA and Brazil and their weaknesses in facing the Covid-19 pandemic. A systematic review was carried out searching for articles in the Scielo, Google Scholar, and official government websites databases. In this context, articles published in Portuguese and English, complete and indexed in the aforementioned databases between 2020 and 2024 were used as inclusion criteria, making a total of 11 eligible articles that were discussed here. The keywords searched were Covid-19, Brazilian health system, and United States health system. Brazil and the United States stood out for their weaknesses in dealing with the pandemic, both because they had to reinvent themselves and fight against time to overcome the difficulties imposed on them, while also experiencing a lack of support from executives with their denialist theories. There was an increase in social inequalities resulting from the significant economic losses in both countries, directly impacting the daily and consumption habits of the populations.
