Abstract: This article analyzes the prevalence and management of depression in patients with chronic diseases, focusing on the elderly population treated in Primary Health Care (PHC). A review of studies shows that depression is highly prevalent among patients with multimorbidities, affecting treatment adherence and quality of life. PHC plays a central role in addressing this issue, but faces challenges such as fragmented care, lack of standardized protocols, and inequalities in access. Evidence-based interventions, such as brief psychological therapies and digital strategies, have proven effective, especially when combined with multidisciplinary care and family support. Integration between mental health and PHC is essential to improve outcomes and manage depression more effectively.
