Abstract: This study investigates clinical practice in a “Therapeutic Residence for Psychological Treatment and Social Reintegration” in Campo Grande - MS, focusing on the care of drug addicts and the dynamics of therapeutic groups involving their families. The analysis focuses on the relationship between a codependent mother and her addicted son, observed from a psychoanalytic perspective. The study examines how unconscious patterns of emotional dependence between mother and child maintain the cycle of addiction. Speeches by mothers of addicted individuals were analyzed to understand the bond and codependency, as well as the consequences of this dynamic, which is often marked by guilt, fear and denial, making it difficult to seek appropriate help. Therefore, unresolved conflicts in the mother-child relationship can contribute to addiction, through feelings of abandonment, resentment or unmet needs.
