Abstract: The objective was to carry out a quantitative and dendrological characterization in Praça da Cultura, Imperatriz, MA. It was found that its afforestation has 41 trees, 10 families, 13 species, 77% native and 23% exotic, with low diversity (H' = 1.78) and equability (J' = 0.69) compared to other squares. . The mango tree (Mangifera indica L.) represents the highest frequency of trees (51.22%), and because it does not present dendrological characteristics recommended for use in urban afforestation, as a consequence, the afforestation of this square presents floristic homogeneity, with potential for economic losses. and social to the population, with the need for a gradual replacement by species suitable for tree planting in squares.
