DEFUNTOS PERFUMADOS: RAÍZES DO EMBALSAMAMENTO NA IDADE MÉDIA EUROPEIA
O embalsamamento esteve presente em todas as regiões do globo desde a antiguidade. Essa temática geralmente é associada às múmias egípcias, no entanto a mumificação atravessou a Europa desde o começo da Idade Média até os dias atuais. Os vestígios arqueológicos e as fontes documentais averiguam essa tradição técnica. Entretanto as raízes por trás dessa prática ainda são debatidas. Com isso em mente, esse material visa justamente elencar as possíveis origens. Para tal fim foram elencadas fontes históricas e referenciais teóricos que aludem tal temática. As heranças culturais que compuseram a Alta Idade Média se concentram em três nichos: Civilização romana, cristianismo primitivo e povos bárbaros. No decorrer do texto, por meio da investigação das fontes, ficará claro que o embalsamamento medieval é uma espécie de continuidade da metodologia cristã. Porém como o embalsamamento esteve presente entre os celtas e os romanos, foi preciso expor suas metodologias para a realização se chegar ao resultado de que os medievos mantiveram esse costume a partir da tradição Cristã.

Abstract:
Embalming has been present in all regions of the globe since antiquity. This theme is usually associated to Egyptian mummies, however mummification has crossed Europe from the beginning of the Middle Ages to the present day. The archaeological vestiges and documental sources ascertain this technical tradition. Though the roots behind this practice are still being debated. With this is mind this material aims to list the possible origins. For this purpose historical sources and theoretical referentials that alude to this theme were listed. The cultural heritages tha composed the High Middle Ages concentrate in three niches: Roman civilization, primitive christianism and the barbarian people. In the course of this text, through the investigation of the sources, it will be clear that the medieval embalming is the continuity of the christian methodology. However as embalming was presente among the Celts and the Romans, it was necessary to expose their methodologies in order to achieve the conclusion that the medieval people mantained this custom from the Christian tradition
