Abstract: Chronic corneal epithelial defect or indolent ulcer, is a superficial ulcer affecting only the epithelium, which is weakly adhered to the stroma due to histological alterations. Its occurrence is not frequent in cats, but when present, it is generally associated to Feline Herpesvirus infection. Diagnosis is based on a history of corneal ulcer unresponsive to previous treatments and the presentation of a superficial ulcer of irregular shape and elevated edges of loose epithelium. Treatment involves the use of eye drops and the ulcer debridement, and the superficial debridement using a swab is the most used technique in cats. A 15 years old feline was presented to the clinic with signs of conjunctivitis and ocular discomfort. Fluorescein stain pointed a corneal ulcer with suggestive characteristics of a superficial indolent ulcer. The lesion was debrided with a dry swab increasing its size and confirming the diagnosis. Antibiotic and mydriatic eye drops associated to systemic antiviral substances were prescribed. Within 15 days the animal presented complete ulcer resolution.
