Abstract: This chapter presents the results of a didactic intervention based on gamification as a methodological strategy to improve the learning of the quadratic function in first-year high school students. The study followed a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest, applied to a sample of 32 students in Santo Domingo, Ecuador. The objective was to transform the traditionally negative and abstract perception of algebraic content. The proposal consisted of a sequence of six gamified sessions structured under the principles of didactic engineering, integrating playful dynamics and specialized digital resources such as Kahoot, GeoGebra, and FlipQuiz. Through a progression system based on challenges, levels—named Explorers, Strategists, and Function Masters—, badges, and symbolic rewards, the intrinsic motivation and academic commitment of the participants were fostered. Quantitative results evidence a significant improvement in the understanding of key conceptual elements, such as the identification of the vertex, concavity, the axis of symmetry, and the relationship between algebraic and graphical representations. On a qualitative level, a notable increase in active participation, collaborative work, and a reduction in mathematical anxiety was observed by transforming errors into learning opportunities. In conclusion, the experience ratifies the potential of gamification to transform the classroom into a dynamic and student-centered space, facilitating the appropriation of complex concepts through experimentation and a sense of achievement.
