Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the variations in the political scope of the samba-enredos of Beija-Flor de Nilópolis, covering the period from the civil-military dictatorship in 1974 and 1975, through the era of Joãosinho Trinta, until reaching the year 2003, after the presidential victory of Luís Inácio Lula da Silva. To achieve this purpose, this analysis unfolds into the following specific objectives, according to the suggested time frame: first, it is necessary to examine the samba-enredos that reveal a frank apology for the dictatorial period; then, it is necessary to investigate some plots represented by Joãozinho Trinta's parades that, despite the strong presence of magical realism, indicated some openness to otherness; finally, it is necessary to scrutinize the samba-enredo of 2003 for the critical analysis that the carnival association introduces about Brazil's past.
