Abstract: In addition to occurring gradually, the aging process is influenced by both biological and social factors. Various reasons—related not only to health but also to psychosocial conditions—contribute to distancing older adults from regular physical activity. In this context, this study aims to examine the physical and social benefits that dance can offer to elderly individuals, as well as the underlying motivations behind adherence to this activity. Moreover, in order to make it effective, the study seeks to clarify the role of the Physical Education professional in the planning and delivery of dance classes aimed at this age group. To fulfill this objective, the narrative literature review methodology was employed, which includes academic and scientific works such as undergraduate theses, master's dissertations, doctoral theses, and scientific articles published on Google Scholar and SciELO within the last ten years (2015–2025), all discussing the topic. Through this study, it was found that dance is not only a fruitful but also a safe initiative for older adults who wish to engage in regular physical exercise. Furthermore, dance proves to be an important bodily practice for the social, physical, and psychological health of the elderly. Lastly, an epistemological debate is observed regarding which professional is more qualified to teach dance: the Physical Education teacher or the dance instructor.
