Abstract: The article aims to define, in Giambattista Vico's (1668-1744) work New Science, the first form of understanding: there is a poetic relationship between Man and Nature, not a philosophical relationship between Subject and Object. Thinking about the beginning of the construction of the social world was only possible poetically. This construction was poetic and allowed for a relationship of transmutation of universal fantastic meaning, enabling the development of knowledge. The starting point was poetic, just as Hercules, a mythological archetype, was identified as the founder of all nations and the first political being. The great forest was associated with the zodiac sign of Leo, slain by Hercules, who caused it to vomit flames, setting it on fire to transform it into cultivated land. One of the hero's greatest labors, the inauguration of Agriculture as work in the fields, became the first expressed meaning between Man and Nature, allowing for the refinement of knowledge and going beyond the immediate need for the preservation of animal existence.
