Abstract: Pertussis has regained relevance in both international and national public health scenarios, especially due to the recent increase in cases, its severity in infants, and the difficulty of recognizing the disease in its early stage, when it may resemble a common cold. This chapter aimed to discuss, from a narrative perspective, how pharmacists can support pertussis surveillance from the first symptoms onward, integrating clinical aspects of the disease, professional competencies, and practical measures applicable to the pharmacy as a healthcare setting. Publications from the last five years on epidemiology, clinical manifestations, vaccination, initial management of cough, and pharmaceutical services were prioritized, along with official documents from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Federal Pharmacy Council. The studies show that the pharmacist’s contribution is centered on qualified patient reception, screening for suggestive signs, identification of severe situations, timely referral, health education, discouragement of inappropriate self-medication, and vaccination, especially among pregnant women and people in close contact with infants. It is concluded that pharmacists can increase the sensitivity of surveillance by acting as first-contact professionals, provided that they recognize their clinical limits and work in an integrated manner with primary care, epidemiological surveillance, and the other points of the healthcare network.
