CRITÉRIOS PARA AS DEFINIÇÕES DE CASO DE PERIODONTITE, MUDANÇAS E INOVAÇÕES: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Diversos critérios têm sido utilizados para a definição dos casos de periodontite, dificultando inferências em relação a variação global dessa doença. O objetivo deste estudo foi revisar a literatura existente a respeito das diferentes classificações periodontais utilizadas, trazendo, também, informações sobre a atual classificação periodontal, EFP/AAP 2018. As buscas foram realizadas no PubMed / MEDLINE, Cochrane - CENTRAL, EMBASE, LILACS / BIREME sobre o tema “Classificação das doenças Periodontais”. As seguintes palavras-chave foram utilizadas: “Periodontite”, “Doença periodontal”, “Diagnóstico” e “Classificação”. As pesquisas foram realizadas até janeiro de 2020. As definições de caso e os conceitos em relação às condições de saúde e doença periodontal vêm sofrendo grandes alterações, principalmente, devido à evolução das pesquisas científicas. Portanto, novos aprendizados e conhecimentos são gerados, possibilitando a atualização/substituição dos critérios previamente utilizados, assim como, novas descobertas e avanços na área.

Abstract:
Several criteria have been used to define cases of periodontitis hampering to infer the global variation of this disease. The aim of this study was to review the existing literature regarding the different periodontal classifications used, also bringing information about the current periodontal classification, 2018 EFP/AAP. Searches were conducted at PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane - CENTRAL, EMBASE, LILACS/BIREME about “Classification of Periodontal Diseases”. The following keywords were used: "Periodontitis", "Periodontal disease", "Diagnosis" and "Classification". The surveys included studies published up to January 2020. The case definitions and concepts in relation to health conditions and periodontal disease have undergone major changes, mainly due to the evolution of scientific research. Therefore, new learnings and knowledge are generated, enabling updating/replacement of previously used criteria, in addition, new discoveries and advances in area.
