Abstract: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aims to help clients cope more meaningfully with suffering through a unified model of psychological flexibility. Considering the various resources used by ACT, it uses clinical metaphors to facilitate client’s engagement with a life aligned with their values. This study is a report of a clinical internship experience from the perspective of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy associated with Analytical-Behavioral Therapy. The client sought therapy with the initial of excessive shyness and a a low self-knowledge repertoire. The therapeutic process lasted for 22 sessions. The intervention was guided by functional analysis, focusing on experiential avoidance with an emphasis on ACT. Initially, the client showed reclusion, poor verbalization and difficulty maintaining eye contact. As a therapeutic strategy, we created a character named Lara to help the client express her private experiences. The use of the character allowed the client to open up in therapy, discussing values and difficult situations in an indirect and playful manner. The intervention encouraged greater self-knowledge, acceptance, and psychological flexibility, resulting in progress in her interpersonal relationships. The study showed that the use of gamification and the creation of a character as a metaphor in ACT helped the client reframe avoidance behaviors, promoting self-knowledge and validation. Despite time limitations during the internship, the results indicate potential for future research in this therapeutic approach.
