Abstract: Mozambique is an African country rich in natural resources, such as minerals, forestry, wildlife, water, among others. The country's economic growth is notable in the agriculture, mining and infrastructure sectors. However, economic expansion presents challenges related to unsustainable exploitation of resources, which can result in environmental degradation and other negative impacts. This research has a quantitative approach and explores the relationships between economic growth and sustainability. Through a literature review and documentary analysis, the behavior of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and its components was analyzed in the period from 2015 to 2023, with significant variations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic being observed, which directly impacted economic growth and the management of natural resources. For a comprehensive analysis, the trends of GDP components, such as consumption, investment, government spending, exports, imports and balance of payments in that period were evaluated. The research found that the lack of sustainable practices could compromise socio-economic development in the future, and suggested integrated efforts aimed at sustainable management of natural resources, sustainable agriculture practices, construction of resilient infrastructures and training of people in various areas of science.
