Abstract: The study analyzes how the policy of ethnic–racial quotas has impacted the trajectory of integrated high school students at IFMT – Campus Barra do Garças. Through a quali-quantitative approach, which includes document analysis and questionnaires with Black and Brown students, both subjective experiences and institutional challenges faced by quota students were identified. The results show that, although Law No. 12.711/2012 has expanded access and diversified the student body, significant obstacles to permanence and academic success still persist, such as socioeconomic vulnerability, lack of continuous support policies, institutional racism, and low Black representation. Drawing on theoretical references such as Munanga, Sueli Carneiro, Lélia Gonzalez, and Silvio Almeida, the study reinforces that quotas are instruments of social justice in the face of structural racism. It also argues that effective inclusion requires transforming pedagogical practices and institutional structures. The study concludes that IFMT-BAG needs to strengthen permanence policies—such as student assistance, anti-racist training for staff, and spaces for listening and support—to ensure the admission, permanence, and success of Black students, thereby truly promoting the democratization of education and racial equity.
