Abstract: Femoral head osteonecrosis is a pathological condition that results in the death of bone tissue, leading to debilitating symptoms and impaired joint function. This article reviews the existing literature on the correlation between corticosteroid use and the development of femoral head osteonecrosis. A comprehensive analysis of the included studies consistently reveals a significant association between prolonged corticosteroid use and an increased risk of osteonecrosis. The cumulative total dose of corticosteroids and the duration of treatment are important risk factors. Pathophysiological mechanisms, such as alterations in blood circulation and bone remodeling, are proposed as an explanation for this correlation. These findings underscore the importance of carefully assessing the risks and benefits of corticosteroids and developing effective preventive strategies.
