Abstract: Introduction: Obesity is a chronic multifactorial disease whose etiology involves genetic predisposition, metabolic factors, eating habits, and lifestyle. With high epidemiological relevance, it is associated with chronic non-communicable comorbidities. Bariatric surgery emerges as an effective approach, including procedures that promote gastric restriction and intestinal malabsorption, such as gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, and adjustable gastric banding. Objective: To analyze the biopsychosocial impacts of bariatric surgery in women with obesity. Method: A qualitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study conducted through semi-structured interviews with 10 open-ended questions applied to 10 obese women who were candidates for bariatric surgery. Results: The primary motivation for surgery was the improvement of self-esteem and quality of life, as highlighted in studies on the psychological impact of obesity. Participants reported preoperative anxiety, aligning with literature that discusses the emotional burden of surgical interventions. Expectations included behavioral changes and lifestyle reconfiguration, corroborating research linking bariatric surgery to behavioral transformation. Conclusion: Sociocultural factors significantly influence the decision to undergo bariatric surgery. Social stigma, amplified by media and dominant aesthetic standards, profoundly impacts the well-being of women, as discussed by authors studying the psychosocial pressure created by the construction of the ideal body. Bariatric surgery emerges as a decisive intervention, not only for physical health but also for emotional and social balance.
