CONTROLE DAS INFECÇÕES RELACIONADAS À ASSISTÊNCIA À SAÚDE NAS UNIDADES DE LONGA PERMANÊNCIA
As unidades de longa permanência no Brasil são predominantemente Instituições para Idosos (ILPI), e se constituem em locais com funções mistas de assistência social e cuidados em saúde. As instalações nem sempre são adequadas, há excesso de moradores e equipe de cuidados insuficiente e não qualificada. As condições inerentes ao envelhecimento, da maior parte dos residentes, e os demais fatores, constituem um cenário de risco para infecções e uso excessivo e, por vezes desnecessário, de antibióticos. Além disto as práticas de prevenção e controle de infecção não estão bem estabelecidas pela comunidade científica e legislação sanitária. É urgente que se estabeleçam critérios de vigilância, focados nas principais infecções, e práticas de uso adequado de antimicrobianos, prevenção e controle de infecção.

Abstract:
Long-term care units in Brazil are predominantly institutions for old people (ILPI), places that provide social assistance and health care. These installations are not always adequate, they have an excessive number of residents, as well as insufficient and unqualified care teams. The conditions that are inherent to the aging of the residents, inadequate installations, along with other factors, constitute a scenario of high risk of infections and excessive use of antibiotics. However, the practice of prevention and control of infection is not well established in the scientific community and the sanitary legislation. It is urgent to establish vigilance criteria, focused on the main infections, including practices of adequate use of antimicrobials, prevention and control of infection.
