Abstract: At the beginning of their activity, the priority of NGOs' activities was focused on emergency and/or humanitarian aid programs for victims of disasters of various natures. With the current context of poetic and social stability, NGOs have become involved in projects of greater local sustainability, reactivating production and social and economic integration of the social strata of the most vulnerable population, with emphasis on urban and peri-urban target audiences. . It appears that the distributed distribution of NGOs in Mozambique does not comply with the criteria of population density or the degree of social development, with a greater concentration developing in Maputo due to factors such as ease of officialization, proximity to sources of financing and o access information. It should be noted that the article aims to understand the contribution of activities carried out by NGOs to the social development of the city of Nampula. As for methodology, we used a qualitative approach and bibliographic research to support the material collected in the field. As for the type of research, it is explanatory. The results show that NGO contributions and social actions do not respond to the primary or secondary needs of the local community in a sustainable way. Although NGOs recognize the importance of carrying out their activities in a responsible manner through their social project to support and contribute to the development of communities in the city of Nampula, the actions carried out do not guarantee the improvement of the population's quality of life since the actions adopted in this sense by the company under study, are not in some way in accordance with the main needs of the local community.
