Abstract: This article aims to present the contributions that decolonial studies have proposed on the category of development, so that this makes it possible to dialogue with indigenous authors based on what they understand as development; sketch, from a decolonial and indigenous perspective, the concrete effects of the Western use of the concept of development through the category of environmental racism and bring critical views from the South about other possibilities of thinking about the category of development. It is believed that decolonial studies bring critical approaches to the concept of development that are able to dialogue with indigenous perspectives and break with the silence and invisibility that the colonial matrix imposes on them. These dialogues make it possible for us to think about forms of development proper to the reality in which we live and which we break with dependence on the global North.
