Abstract: The objective of this essay is to describe the context, advances, and setbacks of the 2017 version of the National Primary Care Policy. We begin the text with an analysis of the circumstances surrounding the Policy's version and selected the following changes in the 2017 PNAB text: The deprioritization of the Family Health Strategy model; the new regulations for the enrolled population; the criteria for defining the types of teams and the number of Community Health Agents (CHA); the differentiation of workload hours for professionals between Family Health teams and Primary Care teams; and the recognition of the Primary Care manager position. The latest version of the National Primary Care Policy brought significant changes that compromise access to healthcare, insofar as they weaken the Family Health Strategy model as the organizing framework of the Healthcare Network in Brazil.
