Abstract: The research, conducted at IFMT – Barra do Garças Campus between 2022 and 2023, involved around 120 students and focused on pedagogical practices guided by Law No. 10.639/2003, aiming to value Afro-Brazilian history and culture. Through a quantitative–qualitative questionnaire applied to 126 students, the study analyzed their perceptions of racial discussions in Sociology classes. The data indicate that most students self-identify as brown (53.2%), followed by white (34.9%) and Black (8.7%). Regarding gender, cisgender students predominate, with small representations of trans and non-binary identities. Concerning the presence of racial themes in the curriculum, 45.2% consider it to be widely discussed and 50% moderately discussed; 90.5% state that they have already studied the topic, especially in the second year. Only 34.9% reported participating in antiracist activities outside the classroom. The study concludes, based on Gomes and Munanga, that decolonial and antiracist pedagogical practices are essential to combating inequalities and promoting equity. All students acknowledged the importance of the topic, reinforcing its role in critical and civic education.
