CONSELHO GERAL DE PROVÍNCIA: PERCALÇOS E TENSÕES NA INSTALAÇÃO DE NOVAS INSTITUIÇÕES POLÍTICAS NA PROVÍNCIA DA BAHIA (1828-1830)
A província da Bahia estava entre
as maiores do Império. Sua configuração
geográfica e populacional influenciou na
representação política das várias instituições
estabelecidas no Brasil, no pós-independência.
Por isso, seu Conselho Geral de Província,
era composto por 21 conselheiros. Esse novo
espaço político, definido na Constituição
de 1824, constitui objeto desse artigo, que
analisa os percalços e tensões nos primeiros
momentos de sua instalação e funcionamento,
no período de 1828 a 1830, quando se firmou
como importante instrumento de pressão capaz
de influir em decisões tomadas por instâncias
hierarquicamente superiores.

Abstract:
The province of Bahia was
amongst the biggest of the Imperial period. Its
geographical and populational configuration
influenced the political representation of the
various institutions that had been established
in Brazil, in the post-independence period. For
this reason, its Provincial General Council was
composed by 21 councellors. This new political
space, defined at the 1824 Constitutional Law,
is the object of study of the present article, which
analyses the mishaps and tension at the first
moments of its foundation and operation, from
1828 to 1830, when it established itself as an
important pressure tool, capable of influencing
decision taking by hierachically superior
instances.
