Abstract: The treatment of wounds should be based on scientific evidence, however, there are practices based on tradition that have been perpetuated from generation to generation, which can imply serious risks. Objectives: To describe generational methods in wound treatment in the community; to explore existing beliefs in wound care in the community; to identify the sources of knowledge in generational wound treatment. Methodology: Descriptive-exploratory study conducted through semi-structured interviews. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were categorized according to the obtained responses. Results: The sample consisted of 20 participants, 14 women and 6 men, with an average age of 65.85±12.54. From the analysis, it is possible to perceive that there are methods that are passed down from generation to generation and can cause harm. Beliefs include cleaning wounds with mallow water and applying potato peels to burns. The predominant source of knowledge is the 'mother.' Conclusion: This study warns about the need to implement strategies that promote the dissemination of good practices in wound treatment.
