CONHECIMENTO SOBRE A REABILITAÇÃO VESTIBULAR FISIOTERAPÊUTICA EM UM CENTRO UNIVERSITÁRIO DE SALVADOR
A reabilitação vestibular é um
tratamento especializado, não invasivo e eficaz
no controle dos sinais e sintomas clínicos que se
manifestam mediante as disfunções vestibulares.
Apesar das fortes evidências e recomendações,
poucos pacientes realizam este tratamento.
Diante disso, o presente estudo teve como
objetivo avaliar se os estudantes, trabalhadores
e professores universitários conheciam a
reabilitação vestibular fisioterapêutica. Além
disso, investigar se estas pessoas conheciam
alguém que já tenha apresentado queixa de
tontura. Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico,
de corte transversal e caráter descritivo, que
avaliou uma amostra da população de um
centro universitário da cidade de Salvador,
Bahia. Aqueles que aceitaram participar do
estudo assinaram o termo de consentimento
e responderam às perguntas realizadas pelos
pesquisadores. Os resultados mostraram que
entre os 500 participantes entrevistados, apenas
26,2% relataram conhecer ou já ter ouvido falar
sobre a reabilitação vestibular, enquanto que
93,8% relataram conhecer alguém que já sentiu
tontura. A falta de conhecimento da população
sobre a área de atuação fisioterapêutica que
avalia e trata os distúrbios do equilíbrio corporal,
manifestados principalmente por queixas de
tontura, pode ser um fator importante para a
baixa procura por este serviço. Sugere-se então,
a criação de estratégias de atenção primária,
para a conscientização da população sobre os sintomas das disfunções vestibulares
e sobre a existência da reabilitação vestibular. Desta forma, será possível evitar a
prescrição desnecessária de medicamentos e favorecer o controle sintomático e a
recuperação funcional do equilíbrio através de uma abordagem segura e eficaz.

Abstract:
Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized, noninvasive treatment that is
effective in controlling clinical signs and symptoms that manifest through vestibular
dysfunction. Despite strong evidence and recommendations, few patients undergo this
treatment. Given this, the present study aimed to assess whether students, workers and
university teachers knew the physical therapy vestibular rehabilitation. Also, investigate
if these people knew anyone who has already complained of dizziness. This is a crosssectional,
descriptive epidemiological study that evaluated a sample of the population
of a university center in the city of Salvador, Bahia. Those who agreed to participate
signed the consent form and answered the questions asked by the researchers. The
results showed that of the 500 participants interviewed, only XX% reported knowing
or having heard about vestibular rehabilitation, while XX% reported meeting someone
who had already felt dizzy. The lack of knowledge of the population about the area
of physical therapy that evaluates and treats body balance disorders, manifested
mainly by complaints of dizziness, may be an important factor for the low demand
for this service. Thus, it is suggested the creation of primary care strategies to make
the population aware of the symptoms of vestibular dysfunction and the existence of
vestibular rehabilitation. Thus, it will be possible to avoid unnecessary prescription of
drugs and favor symptomatic control and functional recovery of balance through a safe
and effective approach.
