Abstract: Copernicia prunifera (Miller) H. E. Moore, known as carnauba, is a palm tree with ecological and economic importance that plays a fundamental role in local rural communities. This research aimed to analyze the ethnobotanical aspects of this palm tree in a rural community of Nazaré do Piauí city, PI. The information was obtained through 25 semi-structured interviews with smallholder farmers, considered key informants, using the snowball technique. The interviewees demonstrated a detailed knowledge of the carnauba palm, with the ceriferous powder being the main product extracted from its leaves. In addition, the leaves can be used to feed cattle and in the handicrafts, in the hats and bags’ confection. The data obtained in this work are fundamental for the evaluation of the traditional knowledge of the carnauba, considered important for the development of management strategies and the conservation of this species in Nazaré do Piauí.
