Abstract: The use of didactic models are great tools for teaching genetics, as they help to understand content that is difficult to assimilate. These methodological alternatives are used by teachers in the classroom as a way of better developing student learning. In this context, the aim of this research was to make and apply didactic models for students as a way of facilitating the teaching and learning of the subject of genetics, in the 3rd grade class at a basic education school in the city of Zé Doca. Lectures were given on the topics of nucleic acids, mitosis and meiosis, followed by the application of didactic models on the same topics. To assess the students' level of understanding, two questionnaires were administered relating to the content and the models. Given the results obtained, it can be seen that the didactic resources used in the classroom made a positive and relevant contribution to the students' development and learning. Therefore, the use of questionnaires involving both theory and practice was of the utmost importance. The development and application of the didactic models sought to promote meaningful and contextualized learning.
