Abstract: We present a synthesis of the environmental contamination of the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex (CEP), a notable ecosystem under intense and historic environmental impact on the Brazilian coast. In addition to conserving the biodiversity of a global hotspot, the estuary is the basis for access to natural resources for the human communities in its surroundings. We carried out bibliometrics based on scientific articles on pollution in the CEP, between 2010 and 2023. Results unfold a picture of environmental contamination, based on the contaminants that were investigated in various organisms, sediments and water, namely: trace elements; atmospheric contaminants; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; fecal sterols and organochlorine compounds. Contamination is not homogeneally distributed throughout CEP, it concentrates closer to the Port of Paranaguá, while the Laranjeiras Bay seems to be more preserved and free of contaminants. This synthesis can be used as an instrument for territorial environmental management, as guiding plans, monitoring, strategies and actions for conservation.
