Abstract: The objective is to reflect on the fine line between literature and hate speech, and thus, conjecture how literature, from the perspective of information literacy, can contribute to mitigating the impacts of hate speech on the reader. To achieve our objective, a literature review is carried out, starting from a reflection on the impacts of literary reading and hate speech on the reader, and how literature can develop tolerance and impact hate speech actions. It was concluded that although literature can challenge prejudices and stereotypes, we cannot ignore the deeper roots of discrimination, which often manifest themselves in social, political and economic structures. However, to effectively mitigate discriminatory and intolerant speech, we must also invest in educational programs that promote cultural awareness, mutual respect, and the appreciation of diversity.
