Abstract: There are constant unwanted effects caused by medications used incorrectly, due to lack of medical supervision. However, this is also recurrent in the field of veterinary medicine, however, it is less documented. The present work reports an example of this situation, in which a Red Belgian Canary (Serinus canaria) was treated with Nystatin and dye, daily for 30 days, resulting in liver damage, intestinal entrapment and the consequent death of the bird. The objective is to warn that an accurate diagnosis with anamnesis and laboratory tests is very important to treat only the affected birds and not to medicate as a flock, to prevent possible changes with correct guidance of food and sanitary management.
