COMO LEGITIMAR UMA OCUPAÇÃO: A INTERVENÇÃO ESTADUNIDENSE NO IRAQUE NA PERSPECTIVA DA VEJA (2003)
Nosso artigo propõe uma análise da intervenção estadunidense no Iraque na visão da revista Veja no ano de 2003, bem como os mecanismos que ela utilizou para veicular suas matérias, entendendo que as revistas são um instrumento de manipulação de interesses e de intervenção social. Ficou perceptível que a Veja mostrou uma postura favorável à intervenção, mostrando claramente a postura neoliberal sobre o episódio, defendendo um posicionamento que estava de acordo com a proposta do seu corpo editorial. Mostraremos, em um primeiro momento, formas de utilizarmos as revistas como fontes históricas, explorando algumas metodologias. Em seguida caminharemos para uma descrição e discussão bibliográfica acerca da Revista Veja, um pequeno debate acerca da intervenção no Iraque. Após esses três procedimentos, partiremos para a análise das fontes, mostrando como a Veja não poupou esforços para legitimar a intervenção no Iraque.

Abstract:
Our article proposes an analysis of the US intervention in Iraq in the vision of Veja magazine in 2003, as well as the mechanisms it used to convey its articles, understanding that magazines are a tool for manipulation of interests and social intervention. It was noticeable that Veja showed a favorable posture to the intervention, clearly showing the neoliberal posture about the episode, defending a position that was in accordance with the proposal of its editorial staff. We will show, in a first moment, ways to use the magazines as historical sources, exploring some methodologies. Then we will walk to a description and bibliographical discussion about Veja Magazine, a small debate about the intervention in Iraq. After these three procedures, we will go to the analysis of the sources, showing how Veja spared no efforts to legitimize the intervention in Iraq.
