CIVILIZAÇÃO NA FRONTEIRA BRASIL-PARAGUAI
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar algumas reflexões iniciais sobre o “processo civilizador” da região de fronteira Brasil-Paraguai, desenvolvido na primeira metade do século XX e que marcou a representação da região. As reflexões apresentadas aqui surgiram do levantamento de fontes para elaboração da tese de doutorado em educação intitulada “Educação e fronteira sul-mato-grossense (1889-1943): análise a partir da historiografia regional”. Assim, o presente trabalho problematiza a fronteira e as narrativas que compõem a representação sobre a mesma. O trabalho se ancora na historiografia regional, pois foi realizado a partir de fontes teórico-bibliográficas. As reflexões se fundamenta em alguns conceitos do sociólogo Norbert Elias em diálogo com o historiador Roger Chartier. Tem-se como conclusão que as relações de poder entre grupos e instituições marcaram o jogo de poder e o “processo civilizador” na região evidenciados por narrativas que compuseram a representação. Tal conclusão abre possibilidades para compreender as figurações do sistema de instrução pública na região, bem como evidencia que a Teoria dos Processos Civilizadores é uma importante ferramenta que possibilita novas interpretações sobre a região.

Abstract:
The present essay has as intent to introduce some initial reflections about the “civilizing process” of the frontier territory between Brazil and Paraguay, developed in the first half of the 20th century, which has determined the regional depiction. The reflections here presented have emerged from the sources survey for the creation of the doctoral thesis in Education, entitled "Education and the Mato Grosso do Sul frontier (1889-1943): analysis from the regional historiography". Thus, the present essay problematizes the frontier and the narratives that compose its representation. The paper is anchored in the regional historiography, for it has been constructed from theoretical-bibliographic sources. The reflections substantiate from a few concepts provided by the sociologist Norbert Elias dialoguing with historian Roger Chartier. The conclusion obtained is of that the power relations amongst groups and institutions have determined the power game and the “civilizing process” in the region, emphasized by the narratives that have composed its representation. Such conclusion opens possibilities for comprehending the setup of the regional public instruction system, as well as emphasizing that the Theories of Civilizing Process is an important tool that allows new interpretations about the region.
