Abstract: Cytomegalovirus is a herpes virus, transmitted by various forms of contact, with a significant prevalence in the world's population. Due to this, congenital cytomegalovirus becomes a relevant topic in the academic population, given its diagnosis, monitoring and treatment, which require time and a multidisciplinary team. The diagnosis is mainly based on the measurement of urinary or salivary polymerase chain reaction and treatment is carried out with two drugs of choice, one oral and the other intravenously. Congenital cytomegalovirus must be monitored during the first years of childhood, as it has complications that impact quality of life. Studies look for vaccination and other treatment medications, but the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and treatment is highlighted.
