CIDADE: CONSTRUÇÃO IDENTITÁRIA
Um dos paradoxos que a cidade abriga, segundo Lynch (2011), é o fato de o habitante ser ao mesmo tempo ator e observador “desse espetáculo”. A ideia de fragmentação progressiva da memória urbana (nas palavras de Koolhaas, 2010) atribui uma qualidade de assepsia aos centros urbanos, fruto de uma urgência construtiva que acaba por desconstruir a identidade local e cuja organicidade define o âmbito de discussão deste trabalho. A narrativa do presente artigo busca referencial teórico nos autores que discutem a apropriação da cidade a partir da base, para refletir sobre a proliferação das iniciativas Bottom Up na cidade de São Paulo. O artigo, em sua parte inicial, contempla um recorte do pensamento contemporâneo sobre o direito a cidade, o comportamento emergente e a construção de lugares que reflitam e legitimem o valor identitário. Na sequência, o trabalho apresenta iniciativas de apropriação urbana no centro de São Paulo e, como conclusão, uma reflexão sobre a cidade, cuja qualidade experimental de um laboratório faz dela um espaço próprio (e propício) para a criação e articulação de ideias a partir da iniciativa cidadã.

Abstract:
One of the city's paradoxes, according to Lynch (2001), is the fact that the inhabitant can be, at the same time, the actor and observer of "this performance". The progressive fragmentation of urban memory (in Koolhaas’s words, 2010) grants an aseptic characteristic to urban centers, result of having an urgency to build buildings. This urgency deconstructs local identity, which in turn defines the discussion scope included in this article. The narrative developed hereby anchors in a few authors’ ideas for theoretic reference. It discusses city appropriation as a root concept, in order to reach the subject of Bottom Up initiatives proliferation, taking place in the city of São Paulo’s bounds. The article initially delineates a contemporary framework of thought. Then, it dives into the discussion about having the right to experience the city–an emerging behavior–and also to build places which reflect on, and vouch for, identity value. Subsequently, this work presents a few urban appropriation initiatives inside São Paulo’s city center. The work’s conclusion is a reflection upon the city, seeing that it functions almost like a lab, experimentally. The city quintessentially favors the creation and articulation of multiple ideas. People’s initiatives precisely trigger that starting point.
