CÍCERO ARPINO CALDEIRA BRANT: PRIMEIRO DIRETOR DO GRUPO ESCOLAR DE DIAMANTINA (1907-1909)
A pesquisa sobre o primeiro diretor
do Grupo Escolar de Diamantina (GED) Cícero
Arpino Caldeira Brant tem por referencial
teórico Magalhães (2004); Faria Filho (2014),
Gonçalves (2006), Cabral, Azevedo (2012);
e de Gil, Caldeira (2011). A metodologia foi a
pesquisa documental com as etapas de coleta,
identificação, catalogação e análises. Entre
as fontes primárias utilizadas estão: Jornais
Diamantina, Idea Nova, O Norte, os livros do
GED Caixa Escolar, Folhas de Pagamento,
Promoções todos esses documentos datados
em 1907. As principais fontes secundárias
foram Senna (1906) com seu anuário estatístico
sobre o Estado de Minas Gerais; e produções
de funcionários do GED. A periodização da
pesquisa foi delimitada de 1907 a 1909, tendo
por referência os anos de início e término da
atuação do primeiro diretor. Nos resultados
obtidos compreende-se que o cargo de Diretor
de Grupo Escolar surgiu com a Reforma
João Pinheiro, Lei nº 439 de 28/09/1906, que
expressou o ideário republicano na educação.
O decreto nº 1960 de 16/12/1906 regulamentou
o funcionamento dos grupos escolares e trazia
no terceiro capítulo as atribuições dos diretores,
como era um cargo de grande responsabilidade,
tinha uma maior remuneração. Cícero exerceu
o cargo de 1907 a 1909, com atribuições:
controlar as atividades das professoras, dos
alunos e de demais funcionários, elaborar
toda documentação (folhas de pagamento,
caixa escolar, termos de promoção e exames)
para serem enviados a Secretaria do Interior
mediante autorização dos inspetores. Coube
aos diretores implementar essa modernidade
republicana, ser um elo entre o governo mineiro
e o grupo escolar.

Abstract:
The research on the first director
of the School Group of Diamantina (SGD)
Cícero Arpino Caldeira Brant has by theoretical
reference Magalhães (2004); Faria Filho
(2014), Gonçalves (2006), Cabral, Azevedo
(2012); and de Gil, Caldeira (2011). The
methodology was the documental research with
collection, identification, cataloging and analysis steps. Among the primary sources
used are Diamantina Journals, New Idea, The North, the SGD books from School
Cashier, Payroll, Promotions, all of these documents dated from 1907. The main
secondary sources were Senna (1906) with its statistical yearbook of Minas Gerais
State and SGD staff productions. The research periodization was delimited from 1907
to 1909, having as reference the years of beginning and end of the action of the first
director. In the obtained results, it is understood that the School Group Director position
arose with the João Pinheiro Reformation, Law nº 439 of 09/28/1906, which expressed
the republican ideology in the education. Decree no. 1960 of 16/12/1906 regulated the
school groups functioning and brought in the third chapter the directors attributions, as it
was a great responsibility position it had a higher remuneration. Cícero held the position
from 1907 to 1909, with attributions: to control the activities of teachers, students and
other employees, prepare all documentation (payroll, school cashier, promotion terms
and exams) to be sent to the Interior Secretary through inspectors’ authorization. It
was up to the directors to implement this republican modernity, to be a link between the
Minas Gerais government and the school group.
