Abstract: Introduction: Nasal breathing is essential for homeostasis and craniofacial development. However, upper airway obstructions often lead to mouth breathing, a dysfunction that compromises the balance of the stomatognathic system. The purpose is to investigate the causes and the structural, functional, and sensory repercussions of mouth breathing in the pediatric population, focusing on the importance of interdisciplinary intervention. Theoretical reference: The chronicity of the oral pattern results in skeletal changes, such as an increased SN-GoGn angle ("long face"), impairments in chewing, swallowing, sensory processing, and postural adaptations such as forward head posture. Methodology: Narrative literature review conducted in PubMed, SciELO, and ScienceDirect (2020-2025), after selection, only 9 articles fit the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: Restoring harmony depends on early diagnosis and a coordinated approach between otorhinolaryngology, dentistry, and speech therapy, with myofunctional therapy being indispensable for neuromuscular reprogramming.
