Abstract: Seagrasses provide shelter and food for a variety of marine species, as well as reduce coastal erosion and improve water quality. However, due to human activity, the distribution of seagrasses has decreased in many coastal areas. Remote sensing is a powerful tool for the representation of various types of ecosystems, which has been used successfully for years in the world. For this work, LandSat Oli 8, Sentinel 2A images, Bing Satellite images and the bathymetry of the Cuban coasts were used for a general prior knowledge of the depth profiles, in addition, information from previous works on the cartography of the Batabanó seagrasses and types of seabed, using LandSat 7 images. Object Oriented Image Segmentation was the tool used to obtain the spatial distribution of seagrasses in the Gulf of Batabanó using remote sensing. As a result, the spatial distribution of the grasses of the Gulf of Batabanó was obtained at a scale of 1:100,000 in a submerged area of 21,205 km2, the area of identified seagrass covers 50.22% of the studied area with a surface of 10,648,7 km2. The cartography obtained can be very useful for the coastal management of the area, serving as a baseline in studies of conservation and restoration of seagrasses and coastal ecosystems in general.
