Abstract: This work presents the synthesis of sustainable Carbon Dots (CDs) from mango leaves (Mangifera indica) using a microwave-assisted method (mg-CDs) and their application in polymeric films (mg-CDs-F). The mg-CDs showed an average size of 4.82 ± 0.15 nm, with a distribution below 10 nm. FTIR indicated oxygenated functional groups (–OH, C–O, C=C), associated with the presence of natural compounds such as mangiferin on the CDs’ surface. UV-Vis data demonstrated absorptions at 210 nm, related to the graphitic core, and 270 nm associated with carbonyl groups, while photoluminescence exhibited three emission bands (λ = 430, 545, and 668 nm), enabling multicolor and white light emission (CIE ≈ (0.35; 0.33); CCT ≈ 4294 K). The CDs displayed excellent photostability, with emission intensity decay < 10% after 60 min. Furthermore, the preliminary study of incorporating mg-CDs into PVA polymeric films showed a shift in emission toward the predominantly green region due to interaction with –OH groups of the matrix. These results demonstrate the potential of mg-CDs-F as a light-converting layer in LEDs, offering a sustainable and low-cost alternative for lighting applications.
